PDW were appointed by Aska homes in 2013 to help gather the views of older people from the Bangladeshi and Pakistani heritage communities in Oldham. The aim was to highlight any immediate issues facing these communities and to help Aksa and Oldham Council develop a long term approach to the provision of housing and support services within those communities.
With the intention of finding out more about the things that older people struggle with, particularly relating to their current housing circumstances, and to understand more about what worries people as they approach old age, PDW set out and recruited a number of researchers from the local community. Trained by our project team, this group carried out over 100 face to face interviews over the period of our appointment, providing a significant base for recommendations to be made
Not only did Aksa benefit from the findings of this piece of work, they were also left with a resource that they could use again in future projects or survey work all trained by our own in house project team.
